ARCH1101-2012

Creative Piece

Wooden Triceratops
The wooden dinosaur was quite a memorable project I did back in Year 10 Semester Two. I find that the process of building this toy was quite fascinating. I started using 3D programs(Can't remember name of program) to model the parts together gave me a good idea how the overall components of the toy parts came together as well as the movement through animation. We also printed plans, sections and elevations of the toy to get into order to assist in manufacturing it in woodwork.

The woodwork process was tedious because we had to make sure no mistakes were made in the calculation and the dangers of using equipment in making of the toy (We some assistance from teachers). Nonetheless, it was quite rewarding to assemble the components to gather after completion. For me this was a challenge I enjoyed because it was something difficult being accomplished with satisfying results.

Architectural Piece

Marina Bay - Helix Bridge(Left) to the Singapore Casino/Marina Bay Hotel (Right)

The Helix Bridge is a steel structure bridge that links from Marina South to Marina Bay. It uses the steel meshes and fritted glass for the inner spiral to provide shade for Singapore Sumer Season. Additionally, the intricate helix structure also gives the bridge a very aesthetically pleasing design in terms of architecture, as well as strengthening the structure. Colour Changing Lights are also added on the external side of the helix structure to illuminate its spectacular appearance during night for visitors, something I find quite beautiful.

The Singapore Casino (Marina Bay Sands Hotel) on Marina Bay also has a unique design. The main visual sight for the hotel would be the three tall towers supporting the massive boat like structure (which houses the swimming pool), give the building a sense of power. Another intriguing design would be the towers being split at the bottom and connecting at the top, resembling legs of a human. Overall, the hotel has very modernistic design due to its appearance and how it was constructed as well as dominating as overlooks the buildings around it Marina Bay.

Photographic Piece

This picture was taken in Cumberland Park State Forest in Cherrybrook. The main focus was the Kookaburra itself standing out majestically in this photo. The Kookaburra looks as if it smiling in while perched on the branch of a tree gives the picture a sense of tranquillity. From my perspective, I find it very rare to see a smile on this bird, instead of a neutral or aggressive expression it usually has when people take a photo, see a commercial, TV shows or in movies. This different display of emotion is what I find quite interesting.
